Gutters are one of the most invisible aspects of most homes. When they’re working as intended, no one ever thinks about them. In the rainy season, they’re up there quietly redirecting the rush of rainwater that’s assaulting your roof, keeping it from forming a waterfall barrier around your entire home. On sunny days, they’re up there happily enhancing the edges of your house – a silent addition to your home’s curb appeal.
But when something’s wrong with your gutters, you’ll notice. Damaged or clogged gutters can put your foundation at risk, can increase the risk of interior flooding, can damage your driveway or sidewalks, and can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
You can keep your gutters maintained and “invisible” by cleaning them out at the end of each spring and fall, repairing damaged joints and downspouts, and installing gutter guards.
Most property owners can do basic maintenance and cleaning by themselves. Just be sure to remember personal safety by having a good pair of gloves, a quality hose, and a sturdy ladder.
