Chickens as pets

A popular trend right now is to get backyard chickens. There are a few things to consider before deciding if you would like backyard chickens. You first want to make sure that your town or city allows you to have chickens. Many areas require certain acreage for you to be able to keep chickens. Also, some towns allow only hens and no roosters. You would first want to check your local ordinances.

You would also want to consider the weather for your chickens. Does it get extremely cold in the winter, or extremely hot in the summer? Weather does affect chickens, and you would have to be willing to get the appropriate housing for your chickens. You would also need to be willing to go out in that weather every day to care for them.

Also, you need to do your research on the different breeds of chickens. Some breeds of chickens are very noisy, even hens. If you have neighbors nearby, it may be wise to find breeds that are quieter.
