Hawaii has sky-high real estate prices and regardless, anywhere, people spend a lot of money on a home. A lot of us in this day and age are struggling to keep up. Owning a home comes with a lot of responsibility, comes with a lot of work that you are going to do yourself or contract out to others to do for you. What I want to teach you is how to do your own home inspection. Then you can regularly walk thru your home systematically and gather this information. Thus, allowing you to formulate a roadmap and proceed in properly managing your home, improve it and keep it in good condition. Where ultimately you are resting assured knowing that your investment is being managed and maintained to maximize its future growth, just like your financial portfolio.
The Many Aspects of Home Inspections — What We’ll Cover
Naturally, there are too many aspects to a thorough property inspection to list here, but we’ll certainly cover everything in detail as we move along in our educational blog. These include but aren’t limited to:
- The nature of the property & surrounding areas (sloped land, flat, etc.)
- Potential drainage issues (an important aspect of foundation integrity and flood risks)
- Roofing systems
- Exterior
- Electrical systems
- Cooling systems
- Ventilation and Insulation
- Plumbing systems
- Interior
- Appliances
- Swimming pools & spas
- Soil characteristics
- Nearby homes and neighborhoods — what immediately surrounds the property?
- Other miscellaneous topics of interest
Again, you could find an encyclopedia series-worth of information about home inspections, but my goal at this point is to cover the above aspects and progressively transition from high-level information to more granular details. In other words, make it practical and easy for the layperson to understand and put to use.
