Do you like to take a steaming hot shower? Many do, but there is a certain point where the heat goes from comfortable to too hot. It is actually possible to have water come out of the showerhead that is so hot it scalds your skin in a few minutes. I’m sure no one wants that. Unfortunately, in some homes, this can happen without warning. For example, if you are taking a shower and someone elsewhere in your home opens a faucet, does the temperature jump up quickly? If so you might have some issues with your system.

If it seems like the water just gets hot and there is no way to adjust it, it could be that your cold water shut-off valve is closed by accident. Checking that should be your first step. Another issue is something called a pressure-balancing valve. In areas with hard water, mineral buildup can cause it to malfunction, and replacing it can help your water to be a more pleasant temperature.
